We grow all our whole oats on the farm. Whole oats are a whole-grain food, known scientifically as Avena sativa. They have the highest fibre content and lowest energy of all the grains. Although oats are a type of grain, they don't contain gluten. Oats are very high in B vitamins, and oat beta-glucan has been shown to lower/reduce blood cholesterol.
We don't include whole oats in our bird food due to the high indigestibility of the outer husk, however, we do use a lot of naked oats, which are much more digestible because they don't have an outer husk.
Whole oats are still an excellent choice for feeding horses. If you would like to purchase in bulk - please visit our Oats for Horses page where we can offer very competitive prices for collected or delivered oats
