FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS
REALLY WILD BIRD FOOD IS A FAMILY BUSINESS. WE AIM TO PROVIDE AN OUTSTANDING SERVICE WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH THAT SHOWS WE CARE!
Founded in 2006 by husband and wife team Richard and Lesley Smith, Really Wild Bird Food is a family-run business and we do everything we can to take care of our customers. Most of the feeds we sell are grown right here on our very own farm in Hampshire, so we can vouch for their quality!
We’re always happy to hear from our customers, so whether you’re new here or you’ve been buying our seeds for years, please don’t hesitate to reach out and say hello!
We take pride in the quality of our bird seed. We have over 30 years’ experience of creating nutritious, high-quality food for garden birds. Most of the feeds we sell are home-grown on our farm in Hampshire, and we focus continuously on quality to ensure that you birds get only the very best.
The team work hard to produce superior feeds that deliver consistently high nutritional value and amazing taste! We keep a close eye on the cleanliness and quality of our feeds, and the health of your garden birds is always at the front of our minds.
Other sellers may appear to be cheaper, but they don’t match our quality. Their seed mixes often contain poor, cheap ingredients with a lot of filler to bulk them out. What might seem like a bargain is, more often than not, wasted by garden birds—and don’t forget, we offer FREE DELIVERY on all bird food orders, so our feeds are excellent value for money with no annoying hidden charges at the checkout.
We at Really Wild Bird Food take our environmental responsibilities very seriously.
We do everything we can to limit our carbon footprint. Our high-quality bird feeds are grown using environmentally responsible farming methods, and we source products from within the UK where possible. Our goal is to minimise the distance our feeds have travelled by the time they make it to your bird table.
We also offer a range of eco-friendly products to help our customers be kind to the environment.
We grow all our whole oats on the farm. Whole oats are a whole-grain food, known scientifically as Avena sativa. They have the highest fibre content and lowest energy of all the grains. Although oats are a type of grain, they don't contain gluten. Oats are very high in B vitamins, and oat beta-glucan has been shown to lower/reduce blood cholesterol.
We don't include whole oats in our bird food due to the high indigestibility of the outer husk, however, we do use a lot of naked oats, which are much more digestible because they don't have an outer husk.
Whole oats are still a good choice for feeding horses and they are often supplemented with compound feeds. We highly recommend adding our oats for horses to your pet's diet. Whole oats are great for horses because they improve digestion and lower cholesterol levels.
Please note - if you would like to buy bigger quantities of our products (this can be any of our seed mixes, straight seeds, peanuts etc) we are able to offer Quarter ( < 300kg ) ,Half (< 600kg) and Full ( <1200kg) pallets of 15kg, 20kg or 25kg sacks. We can also offer BULK TOTES at very competitve prices. Please call us for a quote on 01489 896785 or email us and include your delivery post code to allow us to quote you. For pallet deliveries we can offer very competitive prices!
Unfortunately, the outer husk of oats is not digestible for wild birds. For wild bird feeding, we’d recommend our naked oats; whole oats are much better suited for feeding horses.
Are whole oats good for horses?
Yes! In fact, whole oats are one of the most traditional horse feeds. Oats can be fed to horses whole and, unlike other cereals, they do not need to be cooked before feeding.
Whole oats are a high-fibre feed that contains highly-digestible starch, vitamin B, and carbohydrates. Whole oats are a great source of energy for horses, and have also been shown to reduce blood cholesterol.
What’s the difference between whole oats and rolled oats?
Whole oats are, to put it simply, oats as they come. Rolled oats are made by steaming whole oats then pressing them into flakes with steel rollers. There isn’t really any difference nutritionally between rolled oats and whole oats.
