These mealworms are some of the best I have had in a long time. I soak them in water a little while (overnight in winter) and there isn't the bits in these that you get in some. Very good and I would recommend.

Are dried mealworms good for birds?
Yes, dried mealworms are great for birds because they're packed with protein and fibre.
Of course, live mealworms are even better because they provide more hydration and they're easier for birds to digest...but we appreciate that not everyone can stomach live, wriggling worms!

What birds eat dried mealworms?
All sorts of wild birds like to eat dried mealworms, but they're especially popular with robins. Dried mealworms are a key ingredient in Really Wild Bird Food's best-selling Deluxe Robin Crumble™, a nutritious seed mix that's adored by robins.
If you are hoping to attract some red-breasted robins to your garden, consider putting some freeze-dried mealworms in a ground feeder so that your robins can stay on the ground to eat.

Should you soak dried mealworms?
You don't have to soak dried mealworms – they can be fed to your garden birds as they are. However, soaking them in water before putting them out for the birds will give your feathered friends a bit of extra hydration.
This is especially important during the hot summer months, as well as during nesting season (since baby birds don't drink water and rely on the moisture in their food to keep them hydrated).
If you do want to add some moisture to your dried mealworms, simply soak them in clean water for about 30 minutes before putting them out.

Can dried mealworms go bad?
One of the best things about dried mealworms is their long shelf life. If stored correctly, they can last for up to a year and a half.
Always store your dried mealworms in a cool and dry place, preferably in an airtight container.

When should I put out dried mealworms?
Mealworms are very popular during the breeding season (i.e. spring and summer), but they are also an excellent supplement during the moulting period (late summer / early autumn).
Moulting is a huge drain on a bird's body reserves, so during the moult, wild birds benefit greatly from a diet that's high in protein. Feathers themselves are made of a protein called beta-keratin, so it makes sense to offer your birds some protein-packed mealworms at this time in their annual cycle.
