During the winter months especially in the UK we get quite a bit of rain and damp weather! Which can make feeding the birds tricky at times! In this blog we will have a look at some products that will help keep the seed and the birds happy and dry this winter time!
Top tips!
- Dry your feeders before refilling them, and empty out any uneaten food.
- Feed smaller amounts more regularly. So the birds have time to finish the food before it goes damp
- Try feeding Peanuts or Mealworms as they will keep longer outside in the wet.
You can also try adding a baffle to your bird feeders which will keep the birds and the feeder dry.

Feeder Fresh
Once you have cleaned out your bird feeder(s) Feeder Fresh is an effortless way to keep them cleaner for longer. Feeder Fresh combats the growth of harmful moulds on damp birdseed. Reducing the need for frequent feeder cleaning, it also prevents expensive wastage of inedible, moisture-damaged seed.

Feeder Fresh granules act as a moisture trap, absorbing extraneous rainwater and damp, helping to keep bird seed fresher for longer. Just add a little to the bottom of your bird feeders before topping up with seed, and topping off with a little more Feeder Fresh. These non toxic, chemically inert granules ( similar to white sand) contains billions of microscopic holes and act just like a sponge - absorbing water and helping to prevent mould development.
Rain Away & Rain Guard
Rain Away - The Rain Away (well it won't keep the rain away but it will keep the rain OFF the seed and feeding birds) is a simple, flexible shield which pulls onto most 2.5" diameter tubular feeders including Ring-Pull™, Ring-Pull™ PRO, The One™, Lifetime and Bird Lovers™ and will sit snugly as a canopy to protect against the wet. It is made from soft, pliable plastic which means that it won't crack in cold weather or when it is removed from the feeder for cleaning.
Rain Guard - This 10" rain guard mounts on most tubular seed feeder that has a 2½" (64mm) outside diameter, including Ring Pull Plastic, Ring Pull Pro Seed
