Pigeon

Pigeons are the bullies of many a back garden. They are significantly bigger than most garden birds, and they often use their size advantage to monopolise our seed feeders and hog all the food for themselves.

If you're tired of chasing pigeons away from your bird table, there are a number of steps you can take to deter them. Follow these helpful tips from the Really Wild Bird Food team...

Protect your feeder with a feeder guardian.

Our bird feeder guardians are designed to prevent large birds (as well as squirrels) from accessing your feeder while allowing smaller birds to continue feeding without difficulty. The guardians can be used with pole-mounted bird feeders and suspended feeders. Alternatively, you could...

Invest in a pigeon-proof bird feeder.

We sell a variety of bird feeders that are specifically designed to exclude pigeons and other large birds. For example, our I Love Robins Feeder features an adjustable dome that can be lowered to make the food inaccessible to pigeons. The Nuttery Predator-Proof Seed Feeder is caged to exclude pigeons, while our spring-loaded Squirrel Buster Peanut Feeder automatically closes when its weight limit is exceeded.

If you use a tray to catch spilled seeds, make sure it's not too close to the feeder.

Birds can be messy eaters, so it's a good idea to place a small tray below your feeder to catch any seeds that get spilled. Unfortunately, that tray can make a great place for pigeons to land and help themselves to the contents of your bird feeder. Prevent this problem by ensuring that your feeder is more than a pigeon's height from your spill tray - our Pigeon Spacer can help you to get the distance right.
